Intercessions for Passion Sunday - Nick Lalor

Heavenly Father, we pray for our Church, Your Church. We miss our Sunday collective worship so much – the fellowship, the well-tested ancient words, the hymns, the prayers, the bread and wine. Please bring back those times again soon. But this absence teaches us not to take it all for granted; and reminds us that, for those who are house bound, this is their norm.

Please help us, Lord, to find a way to continue our fellowship and worship during this time when we can’t actually meet together.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Lord, we pray for a world that has been turned up-side-down by the coronavirus. We ask that, in spite of the suffering caused, these events will cause all people to examine their motives and priorities.

May the kingdoms of this earth seek justice, peace and the integrity of creation.

May we look beyond immediate advantage to seek the common good.

But, Lord, please bring an end to all this suffering soon.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Heavenly Father, turn your healing love towards those who are ill and in pain today.

We have in our hearts some known to us, some known to the Church, and some known only through the news.  We bring them to mind now. And, of course, Lord, we particularly ask that you will stand beside Jill and Elspeth, and their families, as they mourn their great loss of David and Peter.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer

Lord of Lent, may we remember

All of life is held together with nails

Piercing flesh of the Son of Man.

Lord of Lent, may we remember

The power of sin and death are forever ended

Hung upon a cross and crucified.

Lord of Lent, may we remember ashes on foreheads

And kneel before the One whose love knows no end

With humbled hearts and repentant spirits.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.  Amen
